Diabetes in Nepal: why regular screening matters
Many adults with high blood sugar do not know it. Here is what the tests mean and how often to check.
Changing diets, less walking and stress are pushing diabetes rates up across Nepal's cities. Because early diabetes has few symptoms, many people only find out when complications begin.
The key tests
Fasting glucose, post-meal glucose and HbA1c together give a clear picture. HbA1c of 6.5% or higher usually indicates diabetes; 5.7–6.4% suggests pre-diabetes.
How often?
Adults over 30, or anyone with a family history, should check at least once a year. People already diagnosed often need testing every three months.
Don't forget kidneys and cholesterol
Diabetes affects the kidneys and heart, so creatinine, urea and a lipid profile belong in regular check-ups too.
Regular testing is exactly what NanoCard is designed for — one yearly fee, unlimited tests.
